Fun With Air Hogs RC Zero Gravity Micro (Toys R Us Exclusive Glow Version)

air hogs zero gravity

What: Mini video review and demo of the Spin Master Air Hogs RC Zero Gravity Micro (Toys R Us exclusive glow version). Available at Toys R Us stores for .99 (the regular non-glow version available at Toys R Us, Walmart, and Target stores for .99). Comments: I’m giving this a 3 out of 5 rating. It’s a lot of fun to play with an RC on vertical surfaces, and even upside down. Like other Air Hogs Micros, this also has a lengthy charge time with a fairly short run time. But, this has a better run time than the micro hovercraft, it lasts around 4 minutes (possibly more if running without the fan on at all). The only real downside to this is it doesn’t work well on textured walls and ceilings. I’d have a lot more fun with it all over the house, driving across larger surfaces if I had completely smooth walls and ceilings. I’d probably even get two for some racing action. The glow-in-the-dark feature is pretty cool. It looks nice in the dark. Unfortunately, I couldn’t show it glowing in the dark while driving because my camera could only pick up the glow very close up. If you were looking to see it glow and didn’t watch through the video, skip to 4:11 to see it glowing in the dark.

Air Hogs introduces a Micro Surveillance Helicopter! The Hawk Eye “Sneak Peak”.

air hogs micro helicopter

Even though the Stormlaunchers were a bit finicky, I liked them. Now, Air Hogs (Spinmaster.com) does it again and introduces the first micro helicopter with a self contained, remotely operated video camera. This tiny flying machine with counter rotating blades and a unique stabilizer system can take 5 minutes of 240 x 320 videos or hundreds of 480 x 640 still pictures. I know this is not the highest quality camera for sure, but for the budding aerial videographer, this is a cool tool. Like any camera, the less you shake the better the pics. The same goes for this heli. It will teach you to be a smoother pilot to get the smooth pictures. It can be used as a remote controlled camera without flying it also. Since there is no cyclic steering, this “Elevator Helicopter” is best launched and recovered by hand. The unique trim knob rotates endlessly and does a fine job of trimming the bird and it stays there when you shut it off! It likes to spin on take off and landing, since a slight amount of forward flight is built in, but like any new flying machine, it will take a few flights of practice to get the feel of it. It comes with a USB cord, that plugs into the transmitter. The helicopter plugs into the transmitter and gets charged at the same time as you download pictures or video. About 20 minutes of USB charging gets you about 4-5 minutes of flying, depending on camera usage. This is a good platform for teaching airborne video basics, heli flying, and creativity. Who knows

Will the new Air Hogs “Hawk-Eye” Video Cam Helicopter fly outside?

fly air hogs helicopter

Please read the Challenge. Here is more fun with toys I wish I had when I was a kid, as I am finally getting to play with them now at age 62! Here I demonstrate how the Air Hogs (to be released Fall, 2010) “Hawk Eye” camera helicopter (for the budding aerial photographers and for the old guys like me), flies outside. IR controlled, so just fly it when the sun is down. Also, it is difficult to see which way it is going at high altitude, so get it trimmed good, remembering not to shut it off in flight, as it will tumble to the ground, but without damage. As you can see, I have really whackoed this little heli and it just keeps going. No damage whatsoever. This may be tame for you purists, but it was fun for me to fly, just to make the video. Plus, having flown lots of big gas stuff, etc, this is a nice little “walk in the park”. Who knows what you will do with one. So I welcome and look forward to any video responses you can make with your Hawkeyes, so bring ‘em on when you can get them….
