Air Hogs Twin Thunder tandem-rotor RC helicopter
fly air hogs helicopter
In the realm of affordable, Ready-To-Fly, micro-sized aircraft, Silverlit and Spinmaster just keep raising the bar! Their tandem-rotor Chinook-style Twin Thunder looks like a couple of Havoc Helis that were born as conjoined twins. The reflexes you’ve learned flying the Havoc Heli or PicooZ will serve you well when piloting the Twin Thunder, but its three control channels and manual trim-adjustments for both left-right rotation and forward-backward pitch make for an altogether more satisfying, more engaging experience than that offered by less complex models.
my twin thunder vid won’t upload:( (file too small)
actually its the CH-46 “sea knight”. The chinook has 4 landing gear wheels. this one only has 3.
xlcrlee already pointed that out. At least about it being closer to the Sea Knight’s body style. I didn’t know about the landing gear, however. What can I say? It’s a foamy toy, not a scale replica. Very nicely done toy, of course.
i agree with you.
havoc helies are harder to control. i want to find this thing!
This thing isn’t hard to find, but the last time I was in a Toys R Us, they had ‘em priced at $74.99, which is outrageous. Look around on the Web, and you can order the Silverlit Tandem Z version for less than half that amount.
Do you recomend me that heli, since I’m done with flying basics of the PicooZ and I want a 3channel?
That’s a tough question to answer. You said in one of your comments on one of my other videos that you’ve got one of these on order, so I guess you’ll find out soon whether you like it. E-flite’s new Blade MCX costs more, but it’s got full, four-channel controls, you can buy replacement parts for it, and I’m guessing it would ultimately hold your interest longer, but that is, of course, kind of an apple-and-oranges comparison. The Twin Thunder/Tandem Z is certainly more fun than a PicooZ.
Yes, but I don’t want to get a too hard heli either. It’s best to go channel by channel. Thanks though.
i bot mine at target for 69.99
Ouch!
Well, it coulda been worse, though. I’ve seen some places price them as high as $74.99.
Just got mine on an awesome clearance price of $29.99. I figured it wouldn’t get lower than that so I bought it last night while at Target. And it is the most controllable micro rc that comes out of the airhog/silverlit lineup. If you can find it get it and enjoy flying around the office.
That is an OUTSTANDING price! I have never heard of this heli going for such a low price. What city do you live in? I’m wondering if this is a regional thing, or if all Targets are going to have this price?
I’ve answered my own question: The deal is listed on Target’s site, which means that price is available everywhere. Thanks to you, I’ve alerted my friends at the RCgroups message board and I’ve posted this on Dealnews. Truly a remarkable price for a fine helicopter!
Unfortunately I had to take mine back today. When I went to charge it….well it only took 5 mins. to charge. Which I thought was odd since I have other Air Hogs and they take 20-30mins usually. Well then my charge only lasted 5 mins as well. It didn’t have enough power to lift quickly. So I happened to get one that had been on the shelf for a while. So STILL get it…I think I just got a bad one. Just wanted to alert everyone that the heli may have been sitting there for 7months.
Yeah, it can be hit-and-miss with toy-grade helis and planes in this price category. Usually they’re fine, but occasionally you get a dud and have to return it. Reading the reviews on Target’s site, it looks like some customers got duds, while others were so clueless that their expectations were much higher than what the product could offer. Most buyers, however, seem pretty happy with these little choppers.
Went to Target because I saw an “alert” in the Micro RTF section of RC Groups (was that you?) and they had Cyclones for $10! I picked up one for me and my brother and we are having a lot of fun with them.
Yeah, that was me. I’m surprised to see that Target is still offering the Twin Thunder for $30 online. I didn’t expect such a great deal to be available for such a long period of time.
i just got one of these. 30$ at target.
any pointers for me?
i’ve already gotten better at usuign it from practice but it can be tricky
Pointers? Hmmm… I almost wouldn’t know where to begin. One thing I’ve recently noticed is that when you’re flying in very limited space, it really helps to trim the forward/back trim as far back as possible, so your heli’s forward movement is slowed down. Another thing is, any time you crash in some dusty corner of a garage, you should make sure cobwebs haven’t gotten wrapped around your rotor shafts. You’d be surprised how much a barely visible cobweb or bit of dust can mess up your flying.
If you want a real wealth of tips, go to the message boards on RCGroups d0t c0m. You’ll find much discussion about the Twin Thunder in the “Micro RTF” and “Multi-Rotor Helicopter” sections.
i got one today at target they went down again it was $15!!!!! cyclones were $7 jet screams and rolling furys for like $10 they are very fun
Are you kidding me!? The Twin Thunder is still $30 on Target’s site. Fifteen bucks is insane! And a Jet Scream or Rolling Fury for $10? Which Target store is this?
my propellers are crooked on it is that bad?
No. They’re designed that way. They’re supposed to be at different angles to each other. If you look closely, you’ll see that mine are the same.
